That Painful, Messy Middle

Transformation is glorious, but that messy middle is painful…

Returning guest Sabine Gedeon illustrated so well the journey she has continued since her last appearance with us.

When last with us, Sabine had published her book and podcast: Transformed – The Journey to Becoming, and shared with us some of the trauma experienced in her childhood.

Born in Haiti and immigrated to the United States with parents and family. Abused physically, sexually, emotionally, etc., Sabine was silenced, taught she was unworthy and unlovable.

I carried those messages with me and became filled with constant negativity and personal criticism. These thoughts of being unworthy bombarded me.”

Sabine Gedeon

At the age of 25 Sabine felt she’d had enough.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I was turning against myself. Messages of pain had been stuffed inside. If this is life, I don’t want to be part of it.”

Sabine Gedeon

Sabine devised a plan to exit the world with a final plea to God.

I needed to know if God was real. And I needed to know if my life had a purpose.”

Sabine Gedeon

She poured out 25 years of pain with her pleas. Then she paused, and that’s when it happened…

I felt the arms of God wrap around me, and awoke the next morning determined to uncover my purpose.”

Sabine Gedeon

Sabine felt she’d been given a second chance and the opportunity to build life on her terms. She wasn’t starting over but starting anew. She began her journey of discovery.

I looked back at the young Sabine with compassion. She was worthy and lovable.”

Sabine Gedeon

Since then, Sabine has been emerging and growing intentionally every day.

Transformation is glorious, but that messy middle is painful and can create trauma all over again. I have the answers now. I can confidently say God is real, and I know the purpose of my life.

Sabine Gedeon

Twelve years after that experience, Sabine authored her book. Over a 7-day fast she was guided and encouraged to share her story on paper and finished the book in 10 days.

I’m still going through stages of emerging. In the last few years, I’ve started another process of change and transformation.”

Sabine Gedeon

She Leads Now is her new podcast which she began in 2022. She discusses with her guests their self-development and lessons learned. Sabine knows there is more that unites us than what separates us.

The skill of listening is a game changer. Listening will reveal more than observing someone.”

Sabine Gedeon

Sabine mentors women who want to leverage their leadership and be more effective in their impact. She has programs, communities, and collectives to empower women.

Healing is about getting to the root of issues for personal growth, exposing the truths of your heart, and gaining compassion for ourselves.”

Taking Your Power Back

If you’re like me, you’ve been in either an abusive or toxic relationship at some point. Perhaps you’re in one now. I’ve heard the terms abusive, and toxic used interchangeably. Our recent guest defines the differences between those terms.

As a Doctor of Psychology and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Homeyra Faghihi has over twenty years of experience in providing individual, family and group therapy services.

Homeyra has assisted various populations over the years and helped hundreds of clients with issues such as self-image, shame, anxiety, depression, childhood traumas, adult traumas, military sexual trauma, domestic violence, and difficult family relationships.

Her passion is to educate, coach, and empower clients as they navigate their way through persistent self-doubt and limiting core beliefs.

Facilitating empowerment workshops and providing individual coaching services allows Homeyra to assist clients with learning skills to help them take their power back.

A toxic relationship is one in which one or both partners are mean to each other. Passive-aggressive communication causes lots of drama. One or both partners in a toxic relationship may feel exhausted, drained, misunderstood, and/or resentful.

An abusive relationship is one defined in large part by fear. One partner has more power than the other and will control and manipulate the other. Threats or fear of retaliation, emotional, physical, and sexual violence; even stalking will be present in an abusive relationship.

If you are in an abusive relationship, GET SUPPORT from people you trust. This support can come from a friend, clergy, or therapist. Get in a safe place such as a domestic violence shelter. Even if you can’t leave in the moment, there are organizations which can help you start planning.”

Homeyra Faghihi

Homeyra offers a free masterclass two times a month called “Say no Without Guilt”. If you’ve left an abusive or toxic relationship, her masterclass will help you focus on ways to advocate for yourself.

Say No Without Guilt is a 75 minute group workshop. The next one is on May 2nd. Many of her clients have said:

I don’t feel alone anymore

It can be difficult for those who’ve not been in such relationships to understand why abused partners stay with the one who abuses.

Why don’t you just leave?”

Homeyra says it is very difficult to get past the shame that is prevalent with trauma. She includes a video on her website that provides reasons they stay:

Stop the Blame. Here are the Reasons you Stayed

Homeyra also offers a 12 week program called Empowerment 4 U. In 90 minutes, each week beginning on May 15th, attendees will focus on these four modules:

Unlearn the lies told about you

Uncover the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships

Untie yourself from shame and guilt and move toward self-compassion

Upgrade your vision for your future

If there is a time to work on empowerment it is now. We must feel empowered on the inside and get control of fear.”

Transform your Power Over Stress

Audrey Weidman was a type-A personality; a self-described over-achiever always seeking for acknowledgment, reward, and attention. As the oldest child of three the pressure to carry out her father’s hopes for her were all-consuming.

Audrey’s father was a doctor with the expectation Audrey would be as well. When her father died of a sudden heart attack when Audrey was twenty years old, her first thought was, “At least I don’t have to go to medical school now.

Her father served in Germany as a medic during WWII. He immigrated to Canada and then the United States. Living in a small town as a doctor meant he alone took care of all medical issues from the smallest to the biggest. It was a stressful, never-off-work type of career. His goal was to have the nicest house and the prettiest wife.

Sounds to me as though Audrey is a lot like her father. She would also suffer a heart attack like her father did.

After getting a food science degree, working alone in a lab day after day, and then deciding to work in market research after achieving an MBA; Audrey began to invest in real estate. After a successful run, everything went south in 2008. With two children still home to support, Audrey lost everything she’d worked hard to have.

Worst of all she blamed herself.

I should have seen the fore coming disaster. I was weighed down with knowing I had to make up for our lost income. For the first time I was not successful. The negative talk began, and I was feeling really down on myself.”

Audrey Weidman

One Saturday Audrey was cutting down brush in her yard while listening to a podcast about successful people and began to feel angry about her inability to feel successful in the moment.

Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Suddenly Audrey became dizzy. Soon she was sitting in the kitchen, her husband prompting her to take a break. Then came the strange sensation in her chest – tightness and burning.

Audrey attributed all this to muscle soreness from exercise the day before. She already had an appointment with her doctor on Monday (two days from then), so she decided to wait to seek answers to her strange feeling.

On Monday morning she ran to the train and then walked several blocks to her doctor in Chicago. As was routine, the doctor hooked Audrey up to an EKG monitor.

Audrey was expecting good news since she’d been working hard at lowering her cholesterol and taking much better care of herself since her previous appointment.

Doctor, I’ve had this strange chest pain all weekend and it hasn’t gone away.”

Glancing over at the EKG monitor Audrey’s doctor exclaimed, “Oh my god Audrey, you’re having a heart attack right now!

The emergency room physicians acted quickly. Before long Audrey felt as though she was playing a part in a movie being zipped through the halls of the emergency room on a gurney watching the ceiling tiles flash by.

It was real trauma for me to be in the emergency room thinking about myself and how it seemed impossible to be having a heart attack. Friends told me I was the healthiest person they knew. I thought I was the healthiest person I knew as well.”

Audrey Weidman

Following all the tests, doctors reported no plaque in Audrey’s arteries, but with special imaging available to her at this teaching hospital, the problem revealed itself quickly.

Audrey was true to her over achiever personality.

I didn’t have an ordinary heart attack. I had a SCAD – Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.”

Audrey Weidman
According to
MayoClinic.Org Spontaneous
coronary artery dissection is an emergency condition that occurs when a tear
forms in a blood vessel in the heart. SCAD can slow or block blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, heart rhythm problems (arrythmias)
or sudden death.
SCAD most
commonly affects women in their 40s and 50s, though it can occur at any age and
can occur in men. People who have SCAD often don't have risk factors
for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
SCAD can
cause sudden death if it isn't diagnosed and treated promptly. Seek emergency
attention if you have heart attack symptoms — even if you think you aren't at
risk of a heart attack.

Watch this video from the American Heart Association

Hindsight is 20/20 and Audrey sees now that stress was a key contributor to her heart attack.

Many women (like me) look healthy and fit. What’s going on in their mindset may be causing stress. Stress sets off biochemical reactions unfavorable to overall wellness. When you are constantly stressed and don’t vocalize it you are hurting your body.”

Audrey Weidman

Audrey realizes she was trying so hard to please others she failed to honor herself.

Focus on what brings you joy. You have more power than you think in terms of following your own path.

Audrey Weidman

For a while Audrey felt sorry for herself. She felt ashamed and embarrassed that she’d had a heart attack. The only treatment for SCAD is to let it heal. She went to cardio rehab.

While in cardio rehab Audrey was encouraged to meditate. She tried Transcendental Meditation and saw the results immediately. Using a Heart Math device today allows Audrey to monitor the effects of meditation using biofeedback.

My gateway out of stress was meditation.”

Audrey is now a Certified Stress Mastery Educator. She offers online courses you can take starting in March. It’s $99 and Audrey promises you’ll enjoy learning science-based content and instruction.

A Journey that Alchemizes Fear and Transmutes it into Love.

This journey helps us recognize the denied shadow of ourselves which we wouldn’t know without meeting our opposite twin. Without this journey we may not see this part of ourselves. It alchemizes fear and transmutes it into love. We become aligned with our soul.”

Elle Hari

Elle Hari is describing a condition if, when followed to completion, will help us accept and develop love for ourselves. The journey she has written about and talked about on our show is a twin flame journey.

An author of four best-selling books, Elle’s newest is Twin Flames Exposed – Most of What you Think you Know About Twin Flames Isn’t True.. and Why Believing it is Actually Keeping you and your Twin Flame Apart.

A twin flame journey was brand new to Todd and me. Therefore, we started with the basics. We asked Elle to define the difference (if any) between a soul mate and a twin flame

A twin flame is the person who shares your soul. Everyone has a twin flame, and only one twin flame. Two bodies, one soul.

A soul mate is another soul entirely (any living being) that resonates with your soul. Most people think of romantic partners as soul mates, and it can be. However, soul mates can be family members, friends, strangers, and even pets.

Our soul is energy and originates in the fifth dimension. Our physical world is in the third dimension, which has a completely different energy paradigm. In 3D everything is opposite and/or in duality with each other. Up/down, hot/cold, etc. Our souls choose to incarnate here because we must experience opposites.

Elle Hari

Elle teaches to live in this 3D energetic environment, the soul creates an opposite of itself. One half of the soul goes to each twin flame; each having an opposing polarity to the other. We may never physically meet our twin flame, but if we do the polarities of each twin flame come into play.

A twin flame journey begins when paths cross and the soul recognizes itself in the body of the other twin. At that point, the polarities become activated. Twin flames are drawn together like magnets. They feel as though they’ve never connected as much with someone else as they are to this person. They feel at home.”

Elle Hari

The push-pull problem

You might think meeting your twin flame would be an amazing experience. However, Elle explains the way the magnetic energy to one’s twin flame can be challenging.

The polarities manifest physically as a push-pull. One twin will push while the other twin pulls. The push twin energy is moving toward their twin, and the pull twin’s energy is pulling away from the push twin. If one is pushing and the other pulling in tandem, you can imagine it’s impossible for them to come together physically for any sustained amount of time. The polarities must be neutralized.

Elle Hari

Neutralizing the push-pull problem

Elle describes the push-pull energy as fear-based energy, while the soul is love energy. To assimilate on this planet in the 3D paradigm of duality love must overcome the fear. Not always easy.

It may look like the push twin is obsessed with the pull twin. It can be devastating when a breakup happens. The energy felt when you meet your twin flame is addictive, and if it’s lost all thoughts are obsessed with a reunion to the pull twin, and the push twin may have trouble getting over the loss.

The soul will not allow you to focus on anything else once you recognize your twin. To neutralize or balance the energy into love, the push must stop. When the push stops, the pull will return. It’s not easy to stop obsessing about losing a part of your soul.”

Elle Hari

Elle shared three indications you may be on a twin flame journey, which begins at soul recognition.

  • 1. An obsession
  • 2. Core wound pain
  • 3. Doubt

Domestic violence, suicide, and stalking can be an indication of a twin flame journey, but people don’t know to consider this possibility. If you’re fixated on someone or are trying to manifest a relationship, you may be on a twin flame journey.

Elle Hari

Elle’s twin flame journey

I had just gotten through a divorce. I had two young children. I met a guy younger than I was, and we connected deeply. In six week’s, he was gone. I felt like my soul was ripped out, leaving a gaping hole and intense pain. I could not function. I would lay on the floor crying, barely able to care for my kids.

For 6 months I consulted with psychics, spiritual advisors, spell-casters, voodoo mambo, and a therapist. I was trying anything to rid myself of this physical and emotional pain.

I finally spoke with a telephone psychic who mentioned twin flames to me for the first time. I Googled the meaning. I paid this psychic for a session and within two weeks I was functioning normally. Three months later my twin flame came back to me.”

Elle Hari

Elle is still with her twin flame today. Not always easy since she is the push twin. Push energy will reveal itself again, and it’s a constant process learning to neutralize that. However, because Elle understands the shared energy with her twin flame she has become fearless in the relationship and has come to accept and love herself.

The doubt is always there. Your soul guides you to the journey for a reason. You can also be magnetized with a close soul mate, which can cause confusion and doubt at times.

Elle Hari

Elle was inspired to author her book to teach the truth and bring clarity to the twin flame journey. Many people have reached out to her, and she has now become a coach.

“So many people are awakening to their twin flame journey.”

Elle Hari

Elle offers a Magnetize your Twin Flame coaching program where she teaches clients to access and work with their soul’s energy. One hundred percent of her students have magnetized their twin flame back into their lives.

The benefit of a twin flame journey

Finding your twin flame reveals the part of yourself you’ve always denied. You are given opportunity to accept yourself without judgement and find complete self-love.”
