Todd and I just returned from a tropical rest in Maui’s rain forest where the days are full of sun and the evenings bring windy, hard rains that replenish the air for a new day. The climate is so unlike my typical day in Seattle, and so refreshing, that it made our return somewhat bittersweet.
This morning, we plugged in the equipment for the radio show and joined Cathleen McCandless for an adventure in Feng Shui. I told her that I had been thinking about how I felt soaking up the balmy nature of Maui and she said the it is a magical place. Coming from a Feng Shui expert, such news was very intriguing! As it turns out, Feng Shui literally means the balance of wind and water. AH HA!! No wonder my senses were soothed in Maui! It’s full of water and wind, and just as Cathleen said, one can easily feel how the two work in harmony together, naturally achieving a unique balance.
So, could it be that we all possess an inner knowing of what calms our being and what stirs it up? According to Cathleen McCandless, “Even Goldielocks knew if her chair was too soft or too hard.” We, too, know what feels good when we are on vacation or resting in our own homes, and honoring this “feel good” ideal is the most basic of several principles behind Feng Shui.
Of course, Cathleen’s expertise has helped individuals and corporations reach optimal goals of providing comfort and flow to specific environments. Yet I love the fact that our own awareness can be used to gage what truly makes sense, feels inviting, and welcomes us home. Feng Shui is not about superstition or an ancient tride-n-true methodology using trinkets and magic. It is about our ability to be aware, connect, and sense what’s comfortable even when we find ourselves miles away from our familiar settings.

I hope you’ve had the chance to download the last few podcasts of the show, as we’ve had a fantastic mix of women sharing their feminine energy about an array of topics: entrepreneurs (also termed solo-preneurs), healthy & conscious eating, energetic coaching, authoring, and of course, cycling from coast to coast! We finished up the month of May with Robin Maynard-Dobbs, a support therapist who, as Todd Alan likes to say, “is in the groove” with food intake. She explored reasons why women impulsively reach for those scrumptious foods when they’re NOT hungry. I offered my favorite downfall–CHOCOLATE–and we discussed the mind games so insidious to habitual eating AND the path to reclaiming healthy, conscious habits. Robin is a nurturing soul talented in leading people through a transformative experience.
We also met Sue Hammond on the first Tuesday in June who is passionate that no person should ever quit striving toward a dream. Her story began in childhood–a girl from a poor and rural community who knew she would one day be famous for her talents. She carried a vision that she shares in her book, Don’t Quit: Follow Your Dream. This is available on Kindle, too, and is a quick moving and inspiring story about finding a place on the stage, literally and figuratively.
We followed up with a spotlight guest from Seattle, Chris Porchaska, who specializes in helping women tune in to their true voice. Just like Robin and Sue, Chris is also very connected to the energy women possess and must reveal through their life work. A soothing voice and an open-heart give her the calm presence so many women appreciate from a mentor. She conducts her work with clients face-to-face, online, and by telephone.
Finally, we met with a business mover and shaker, Stephanie Marie Beeby who not only reads her clients energy, but also helps them shift from uncertainty to a planned vision. Known as a business coach, she supports the feminine model of business by encouraging a flow of masculine counterpoints just where they’re needed. Success is then measured by showing up and commanding the most integral way of being in business for the self.
Todd Alan also brought on a spokesperson, Katy, for Patricia Ann Hansen’s biking journey across the US. She is peddling for the hungry and working everyday to raise $50,000. Patricia has inspired every women on the show, let alone the listeners.
I commend Todd Alan for offering these last weeks of air time for powerful women to share their passions. Download the podcast and enjoy the shows!

If I could only pick five soul sisters in this lifetime, I’d be hard pressed to make my choices, but I know one of them would have to be Annie Burnside. What an amazing human being! She fills the room with a sincere, genuine presence that turns any blank face into a glowing smile. I could feel myself grinning ear-to-ear through the entire interview.
She’s a joy to be with for many reasons. First, she’s the sort of parent we all desire having and becoming–an authentic, joyful, inspired being ready to support every creative idea and challenge that only kids can conjure. Her teachings are rooted in the conscious thought that parents must be, “… moving down a path of self-realization to heal old wounds, uncover hidden beliefs, release denied emotions, and allow greater joy so that they can become a clear mirror for their children.” Essentially, parents must be committed to their own spiritual growth, maturity, and self-awakening so that their presence is an available reflection of intentional living.
And these are deliberate reminders due to the never-ending “busy ness” that we create to keep employment and family obligations afloat. To see the young people of the world as “intuitive, creative, eternal spiritual beings–much larger than simply their physical form–filled with infinite possibilities,” we must know how this first exists in us, the adults, their mentors.
Annie interweaves all the tasks of parenting with the soulful work of being awake every moment of our lives. She is dedicated to the notion that a child’s moment of challenge can also be an educational lesson where we–the adults, parents, and mentors–simply show up to reflect a heart-felt, encouraging message. Annie inspires all adults, but especially parents to “provide the space and opportunity for children to focus on their interior world as much as the exterior world, allowing greater intimacy with the voice of their own soul to feel what resonates as truth for them.”
As an abstract concept, it might feel distant to “show up” and really know what that means. Yet I firmly believe it all comes back to the model of self-care Annie prescribes, by truly taking the time to be grounded spiritually so that when our eyes meet a youngster in need–with any need at all–we are there, listening, feeling and being with that special, infinite little being.

Our focus on “The Zone” turned into a very active show! Mark Wenner, an extreme skier, facilitated his ideas about connecting with Source and how he lets it be the motivator and recovery agent in his life as well as the lives of famous athletes he has sponsored, such as Michael Jordan. I believe his story will captivate the attention of millions in his soon-to-be released docudrama, “Tapping Universal Source.”
Another athlete and extraordinaire, Patricia Hansen, joined the show to share her experience on the road, riding her bicycle across the US to raise funds, but most importantly, to raise awareness about the millions of hungry people in our communities. Her excursion will take her from the Northwest to the corners of the Northeast, and there she will celebrate her success and her 70th birthday! Wow!!
All of this excitement was also fueled by the intuitive and empathic coach, DeAnna Maria DiFabio, who joined the show as a co-host for the day and offered elated messages about tapping into our source–that higher connection available to all. She asked thoughtful questions that gave me goose bumps and led to comments from Mark such as this: “Michael Jordan’s deceased father spoke to him” at the finale of a game because he was connected in his zone–a skill that Wenner helped him reach–and the movie will help you, too! The Zone is for everyone! Check out the discussion taking place at: theZoneMovie.com. It sounds quite mysterious, but, “The Zone is an experience” that audiences will feel right away, claims Wenner.
Todd Alan and Mark had a fantastic conversation about some of our most successful athletes and how they “leave behind their ego” to benefit the kids and be an inspiration to others on a very humbling but motivational level. I encourage you to listen to the podcast and feel the healing energy and inspiration. A final quote I’d like to leave you with to ponder from Mark Wenner, “There’s no such thing as an aging brain.” Now there’s inspiration 🙂

I learned a new acronym while reading Anita’s book: NDE. It stands for near-death experience. Truthfully, I have met many individuals who can share their own story on the topic–how their bodies left the operating table or a traumatic car accident and was greeted in the after world only to find out it wasn’t their time to go. Anita’s story, however, is one of transcendence from a sick body to a new paradigm of self-love. She shares it with grace and an understanding that it might not align with everyone’s beliefs. Her story is about making a choice to heal and find happiness in this life time.
Early in the interview, Anita shared that the body “talks to us” when we fail to listen to our own feelings. She claims that before cancer, “I was a people-pleaser…” and that her strategies to keep her environment calm did the trick–it kept people quiet pleased with her–but she was not happy, and she was not really hearing that her body was enduring her emotional suffering.
Lymphoma took Anita so deep into disease that on February 2, 2006, she left her body and crossed over to another dimension. She says, “I could feel what everyone around me was feeling…” and that the experience of having cancer had left her–she was peaceful and pain-free, no longer part of this world. She experienced “freedom and light! I [had] never felt so good!” On the other side, she was greeted by her deceased father and dear friend. It was through the love of a conversation with them that she found she had a choice. Her life actually had not ended, not permanently, as long as she made the choice to return as a new, healed Anita Moorjani.
Over the years I’ve come to believe that any type of grief in our body, whether it be physical or emotional, carries a message and even a desire to be healed and awakened. Anita claims that her experience felt very much this way, but she was not aware of it during her treatments of cancer. She talks about reconnecting with people after her near-death experience, “I felt that people had lost the ability to see the magic of life. They didn’t share my wonder or enthusiasm for my surroundings–and just being alive….they had forgotten how to just be in the moment.”
The story must be heard from Anita. Her book, the interview with Todd Alan, the PBS special with Wayne Dyer are all modes to connect you to her fascinating telling of her life that ended and was then given back to her. Some would say it was a miracle. I get the sense that Anita feels that miracle in every step she takes, every day, cancer-free, with an awakened sense of self-love.

The notion that we ALL possess a gift to share with our fellow beings can be rather daunting: Who me? Gifted? Really??
We let the questions of doubt take over our minds. Yet Shajen Joy Aziz received a call that brought her to action. A loved one invited her in, opened his heart, and asked for forgiveness. The huge force of energy and light brought Shajen into her story, and that story is the seed of her gift.
Do yourself the favor of reading about it and pick up Discover the Gift, the book and also the documentary. It will stir your imagination and open your own heart. I can say that the trailer alone was a moving experience! As a college instructor, I work with group after group of students who want me to tell them what their gifts truly are. They are concerned they don’t have real gifts, or that they have silly gifts, or small gifts, or gifts that look like another person’s gifts. Worse case scenario, some won’t even acknowledge they possess a gift at all.
They are often like Shajen who shared that ,”…one day, I realized I was an author!” That’s an amazing discovery, especially when it is a “gift” she had been carrying inside of her for a long time. By becoming “connected to herself”–a common theme discussed in today’s interview with Todd Alan–her gift was born. Her voice was shared. By opening to that possibility, we can all give life to our most treasured gifts.
Let her share these ideas of self-discovery with you. Check out: discoverthegift.com

It was a delight to be joined by yoga master, Rainbaeu Mars, and her mother, Brigitte, a renowned herbalist and health specialist. Rainbeau, based in Hollywood, CA., is clearly guided by her a supportive force as she began the interview with, “We are all born with the possibility of love…” Her long-time yoga practice and daily centering of her mind keeps Rainbeau in alignment. “Yoga means union…and alignment brings us home.”
In the studio, Todd Alan took this in and sat tall before his microphone, rolling his head slowly from left to right and back again, and asked, “How much time do we need each day for yoga?” Rainbeau didn’t hesitate, flinch, or sugar-coat the facts. “You need an hour a day.” Wow! An hour! For many, this might sound like a huge commitment.
Well, yoga is a lifestyle, and our lives deserve our commitment, yes? I sat in the studio and wanted to say, “You go, sister!” I listened intently to learn about the disciplines from her own practice. After all, this is a woman who has successfully led tens of thousands of clients along a holistic path. “How you start your morning is how you’ll treat yourself the rest of the day.” Sage wisdom.
Her mother, Brigitte joined the conversation and discussed the idea of introducing greens,
especially dandelion greens, into one’s spring diet. Both Brigitte and Rainbeau offered a genuine concern for the foods we select for our body, our “temple.” Listeners received an overview of Rainbeau’s five secrets for a holistic life:
1. Prayer and Gratitude. Rainbeau suggests that you ask to receive guidance (from whatever source you access).
2. Get on the mat! If you only have 10 minutes, go through the chakras and meditate.
3. Learn to cultivate “sexual magic” by allowing this energy to inspire you rather than confuse you.
4. Practice Virtues. Be aware and alert to the seven deadly sins.
5. Dedicate your life to a higher purpose. Raise your vibration!
Todd Alan inquired about the spring cleanse, a program to help anyone reset by moving the clutter of energy, chemicals, and habits away in a 21 day program. Check out lifemasteryradio.net and select “events” to learn more about the spring cleanse offered by Rainbeau Mars. And just for fun, get that yoga mat out of the closet and move with a feeling of gratitude. Namaste.

Today’s topic: The Love of Your Life: Keep the Life in Your Love.”
So appropriate. Even those among us ruminating harsh memories of love can feel a sense of possibility on Valentines Day–that belief that new love is possible. Today’s guests experienced transformation from an old and popular way of thinking–“love just happens”–to actually creating the love they wanted. How?
Let’s start with Mali Apple and Joe Dunn. They are a thriving couple from southern California who wrote The Soulmate Experience. Mali opened with an unconventional idea, “You must accept your partner exactly as he or she is.” How often do we find ourselves nagging our loved ones toward change? Even when feeling burned by this system, we might resort to praying for change. Yet the message is that we are unhappy and have abandoned all “acceptance” of our partners.
Mali’s husband, Joe Dunn, asserts the notion that “we must invite our partners to join in any experience,” even if they choose to decline, because an invitation moves towards the heart. From our experience, many of us know that our expectations take us out of a heartfelt connection and move us toward isolation.
The couple feels it is so important to identify core beliefs, that in the opening chapter of their book, they state, “Your belief create your experience.” Naturally, if we manifest that we “are not good enough,” such a partner will find his or her way into our realm and help us heal that belief. But it might not be the sort of “help” we bargained for, and for this reason, it is important to note that “we decide what we believe,” says Dunn. It is a conscious choice. Mali and Joe shined vibrantly as they shared their own happiness, experience, and relief of choosing each other from a positive belief base.
Todd Alan reminded the listeners that we must be open to change, which is a great segue to Gina Hardy’s work, “Conscious Union.” She asserts that her audience should return at a later date if they are not open, now, to change. Sounds like tough love, but her design can lead the intentional clients to real love if they dare to commit to change.
Joined by her partner, Joel Young, Gina spoke eloquently about her love experiences and a found “authenticity” in her current relationship. “Authenticity is our birthright. It knocks on {your] door from deep below” as a reminder that we’re out of alignment. To be awake with our partners, we have to be awake with ourselves. Gina says for any successful partnering, the number one “must have” lies in both parties availability to at their own issues. Joel firmly agreed while Gina concluded, “if just one party stays stuck, the relationship can become erosive.”
Perhaps the most entertaining aspect of today’s show occurred between Todd Alan and Joel Young as they digressed to the topic of “ordinary blokes” who must step up to “we” thinking. It is not just the needs of each individual, but the realization that a third entity–the partnership–requires a low-pressure tending to by both parties.
While all these ideas sound blissfully simple, may I suggest holding them right there, in a simple space, and just seeing how joyful your Valentines Day can be solely by showing up with your beloved and offering your authentic self. May love and peace be yours.

Todd – What gear do you use to broadcast your show?
This is a question that I have been hearing a lot lately, so I thought I would share for the benefit of the other hosts and pod-casters looking for that awesome quality of sound. Listen to my show and others to hear the difference.
1st I have to stress that using the phone line will never produce good quality sound with out some expensive equipment. To keep it simple the pots (Plain Old Telephone System) was designed to clip certain frequencies at the bottom and the top of the human voice frequency range, it’s impossible for it to carry all you put out unless you run it through a digitizer.
2nd Skype is a great way to get your voice into the studio as long as you have a good connection to a DSL (Dedicated Service Line). Having a good connection to the internet will make a huge difference. A wireless connection to a modem that has a DSL connection is not good either. An Ethernet connection to a modem connected to a DSL is preferred. My interview two weeks ago with Doug Vermeeren was done on a wireless connection (inadvertently) and you can tell the difference just listen for your self, lesson learned.
3rd A good computer is next, you can tell I’m working my way down the chain of variables required to get good quality sound for your show. I use a mac book pro I’m a PC guy and have been for years but I find that the mac does an excellent job at processing audio, its portable and reliable as long as I plug it into a solid connection to the internet, I have never had a problem and don’t expect any, very important to me when I’m getting ready to do a show.
4th Next I use a external sound card that plugs into my mac via a usb cord. This sound card supplies my condenser microphone (more about the Mic next) with phantom power it also has a quarter inch phone jack for my headphones, both the microphone and the headphones have a gain control, very important features for tuning your voice in for the station. You can quickly turn the gain on the mic down when you have to sneeze.
5th Is a good quality condenser microphone. condenser microphones are powered, this provides the microphone the ability to pick up and convert all the frequencies of your voice with ease. I have it mounted to a desk top microphone stand with a pop filter (wind screen)
There you have it five simple things that will make your sound awesome, other than the computer you can budget $200.00 to $300.00 dollars and sound like the pro that you are.
If you have any questions ask, remember to make it a great day, its a choice
